The universities affiliated to IIT are recognized by the Public Administration Circular No. 16/92 dated 13th March 1992 of the University Grants Commission recognizes Universities. The University of Westminster, 309, Regent Street, London, England WIB 2UW, England is a University listed in the Commonwealth Universities Yearbook published by the Association of Commonwealth Universities. Therefore, the University of Westminster, UK as listed in the above publication is recognized.
The Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission was established in 1991 as the apex body in the technical and vocational education and training sector under the provisions of the Tertiary and Vocational Education Act No 20 of 1990. IIT is registered under TVEC for managing, running or controlling an institute under the provisions of tertiary education or vocational education.
After receiving the completed application with supporting documents, TVEC officials visit the training institution for onsite evaluation. Evaluation is done by considering the criteria set out in Development Plan published in Extraordinary Gazette No. 887/8 dated 7th September 1995.
The areas which will be evaluated under the TVEC are;

– Qualification, Experience and Pedagogical Skills of the Staff

IIT offers the only BCS Accredited Internal British Degrees in Sri Lanka. The following programmes offered by IIT in collaboration with University of Westminster and Robert Gordon University are accredited by BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT. The programmes which are accredited by BCS are;

BSc (Hons) Computer Science
BSc (Hons) Business Information Systems
MSc Advanced Software Engineering
MSc Big Data Analytics
MSc Business Analytics
Graduates who successfully complete any of the above degrees will fully meet the educational requirement for Chartered IT Professional (CITP) registration which will be an added advantage. Graduates from these accredited programmes will benefit from an accelerated route to CITP status. These graduates are also eligible for professional membership of BCS (MBCS) at the point they graduate. Additionally, graduates who successfully complete the Computer Science and Software Engineering degrees will be on an accelerated path to Chartered or Incorporated Engineer (CEng or IEng) status.
Informatics Institute of Technology is one of the very few institutions in the country to receive ISO 9001: 2015 Certification which attests that it maintains a quality management system which complies with ISO’s internally accredited quality management requirements. The ISO 9001:2015 QMS ensures that IIT maintains standards across supporting the student’s body ensuring consistent quality service.
The certificate is valid for the provision of Foundation, Undergraduate and Postgraduate programmes in Information Technology, Software Engineering and Business Management.
